Loragene Sustainability

’’OUR APPROACH TO BUSINESS AND SUSTAINABILITY‘‘

Lora GENE believes in putting sustainability at the core of everything we do. As a leading ethical clothing company, we feel it’s important to leverage our influence and align economic development with social responsibility and environmental care.

We value the power of community over competition and work in collaboration with other creative businesses that share our values.

We are B-Corp Certified.

’’THE PEOPLE BEHIND LORA GENE‘‘

The most important part of our business is the people who power it. At Lora GENE we believe there is no sustainability without social justice, and I truly believe this is where the focus should be before all else.

We produce in Bulgaria, across five factories and four workshops. Of these, three are knitwear factories and two are woven. The rest are small workshops employing one-to-four people that make our pieces.

In total, there are around 750 people behind our products across the factories we work with. We work very closely with these factories, visiting them every three months on average. We have been working with most of them for more than five years.

This means we have good knowledge of how they operate. The factories are also audited independently 3 times a year and have a range of certifications;

Our number one priority is that all people are paid a living wage. As such, we pay around 10-15% above the average market price for a piece of clothing.

’’MATERIALS‘‘

Around 90% of the range is made to order meaning there is nearly no surplus stock.

Almost 98% of our materials are natural, with more than half of our range made from pure silk.

We believe we can design out waste; All of our natural materials are predominantly sourced from surplus stock. Our silk is sourced from England and France, wools and cottons from Italy, linen from Bulgaria

For functional purposes, such as assuring better durability or making pleated garments, we use synthetic materials that are all repurposed. Occasionally we also use Tencel or viscose and a variety of blends of natural fibers.

All suppliers we use are OEKO and GOTS certified. We ensure minimal waste and most of our waste materials are repurposed into accessories.

Some of our main suppliers:

Silk – Biddle Silk, Pongees, Servizi di Seta

Wool, Cotton – Ego SRL, Pecci, Pinori, Manifattura Sessia, Iafil, Filmar, Soktas,
